Pittosporum eugenioides, commonly known as Lemonwood or Tarata, is a fast-growing New Zealand native tree valued for its attractive yellow-green foliage, fragrant flowers, and excellent screening qualities. Growing to approximately 6m high and 3m wide, it is widely used for hedging, shelter belts, and privacy screens in both residential and rural landscapes.

Its glossy foliage releases a distinctive lemon scent when crushed, adding a unique sensory feature to the garden. In spring, clusters of small cream-coloured flowers appear, producing a sweet fragrance and attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Lemonwood is a hardy evergreen species that thrives in full sun to part shade and adapts well to a range of soil conditions from dry to moist. Well suited to coastal environments, it provides year-round structure, shelter, and vibrant foliage colour while requiring minimal maintenance once established.
